Benefit for injured firefighter set for Sunday

GOULDSBORO — A benefit supper for Roger Chipman of the village of Birch Harbor will be held Sunday, May 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Gouldsboro Community Center.

Chipman, a volunteer firefighter and lobster fisherman, was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident April 14.

The supper is being sponsored by the Gouldsboro Fire Department.

“He’s doing good and is home, but in a wheelchair,” said Fire Chief Gary Grovogel. ”He can’t walk on his right leg for three months.”

Grovogel said Chipman suffered multiple fractures in the accident on Route 1.

He said Chipman was grateful for the lobster fishermen who hauled his traps after the accident.

For more information about the dinner, call Grovogel at 963-2686.
