Bar Harbor man indicted on child porn charges



ELLSWORTH — A Hancock County grand jury Oct. 7 indicted a Bar Harbor man on child pornography-related charges, according to the Hancock County District Attorney’s Office.

The grand jury indicted Rene Jesus Amarillas, 48, on one count each of dissemination of sexually explicit material and possession of sexually explicit material between March 26 and May 26.

“The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit got a cybertip that Amarillas’ phone had uploaded child porn,” said District Attorney Matt Foster. “When interviewed, he admitted to receiving CP [child porn] by contacting people on the internet and to sending CP [child porn] to others in order to get them to talk with him. Child porn images were found on his phone that showed children as young as 1 year old.”

At the time the indictments were released, Amarillas did not yet have an attorney on record.

The following also were indicted:

  • Gayane L. Barrett, 33, North Fort Lauderdale, Fla., one count each burglary, aggravated criminal trespassing, unlawful sexual touching, disorderly conduct, criminal threatening, terrorizing and two counts of assault May 31 in Mount Desert.
  • Michael Daris, 29, Gouldsboro, negotiating a worthless instrument and theft by deception Nov. 10 in Ellsworth.
  • Forrest Davis III, 24, Franklin, gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and assault March 1 in Ellsworth.
  • Louis Dettling, 27, Akron, Ohio, domestic violence terrorizing with a dangerous weapon and criminal trespass March 2 in Dedham; two counts violating conditions of release and one count protection order violation March 9 in Dedham; four counts violating conditions of release and two counts protection order violation March 3 and 7 in Dedham.
  • Christopher Dupuis, 36, Hampden, two counts unlawful drug possession and one count violating conditions of release June 30 in Orland; violating conditions of release July 2-12 in Ellsworth.
  • Justin L. Fulcher, 45, Orland, operating after revocation June 6 in Bucksport.
  • Noah Gillen, 24, Sedgwick, reckless conduct with a firearm, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and criminal mischief June 5 in Sedgwick.
  • Gary Goodrich III, 25, Brewer, one count each aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief and three counts domestic violence assault June 15, 2017, Dec. 1, 2017, and Jan. 1, 2018; four counts violating protection order, eight counts violating conditions of release June 23-25 and June 29, 2021, in Ellsworth.
  • Joshua J. Hendrixson, 32, Stonington, aggravated operating after habitual offender revocation, eluding an officer, operating after revocation, criminal operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant, violating conditions of release and criminal speed Aug. 8 in Blue Hill.
  • Shane Jacobs, 34, Bucksport, aggravated unlawful drug furnishing, unlawful drug possession, illegal possession of hypodermic apparatuses May 5, 2020, in Bucksport.
  • Derek Martin, 41, Hancock, two counts each aggravated assault and domestic violence assault and one count violating conditions of release June 29 in Hancock.
  • Matthew Matson, 33, Lamoine, two counts theft by unauthorized taking or transfer June 22 in Blue Hill.
  • Jacob T. Murphy, 41, Ellsworth, three counts unlawful drug possession and one count each improper plates and operating an unregistered motor vehicle April 9 in Ellsworth.
  • Gage Roberts-Watson, 26, Bradford, eluding an officer, operating after suspension, criminal speed and driving to endanger April 29 in Orland.
  • Stephen Strout, 48, Waltham, domestic violence assault June 4 in Waltham; two counts violating conditions of release and one count criminal mischief Aug. 23 in Waltham.
