ELLSWORTH — A Bar Harbor girl was recognized in a ceremony March 17 at the Hancock County Regional Communications Center for her bravery in calling 911 for her sick aunt.

“My auntie was not feeling good,” said Ky’Andra Miller, 5, who attended the ceremony with her mom, Leckera Gaynor, and her aunt.

“I’ve taken thousands of 911 calls,” said dispatcher Erik Fitch, who answered Miller’s 911 call. “She was better than most adults. She word for word repeated what I told her to repeat to her aunt.”

Miller also knew her address and was able to clearly communicate it to Fitch so he could get an ambulance en route to the residence.

Gaynor said the family hadn’t practiced calling 911 but she had told her daughter what to do if someone is sick and they can’t call for help themselves.

RCC Director Renee Wellman told Miller, “You did an amazing job calling 911.”

Bar Harbor Fire Chief Matt Bartlett spoke with Miller and presented her with a certificate. Fitch gave Miller a backpack containing a stuffed animal and coloring supplies.
