BAR HARBOR — Gaia Deboer has for 20 years sold her whimsical, nautical-themed art wholesale to shops up and down the coast of Maine. Now, with House 114, the Bass Harbor artist has for the first time set up a retail space where she can share her wares, expand her line and get a little more creative in her art.
“This shop gives me the opportunity to do a lot of one-of-a-kind items,” Deboer says. “I can have so much fun, being as creative as I want to be.”
House 114, located in a beautiful, funky space on Albert Meadow, carries Deboer’s mermaid, crab and lobster-emblazoned tea towels, cards and clothing, along with a selection of eclectic items such as night lights, lampshades, mirror frames and candles. Her original collage-style paintings also are for sale, along with smaller reproductions of the work and photographs of the scenes that inspired them.
The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is located at 13 Albert Meadow. Call 669-2200.
