Stephen A. and Helen H. Strout of Bar Harbor are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Elana Jane Strout, to Christopher Lewis Díaz of Islesford, son of Hector M. Díaz and Susan Vafiades-Díaz of Southwest Harbor.
Ms. Strout teaches social studies at Mount Desert Island High School. She earned her teaching certification from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor and a BA in history from the University of Maine in Orono. She has also worked on commercial lobster boats in Frenchman Bay and as a Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide along the western shores of Mount Desert Island.
Mr. Díaz owns Dr. Greenthumb’s Landscaping and Lawn Care company on Little Cranberry Island and has just completed his master’s degree in integrative health and healing from the Graduate Institute in Bethany, Conn. He holds a BA in musical performance from Wheaton College in Massachusetts. Mr. Díaz creates hand-carved wood block prints; his framed work is featured at Islesford Artists on Little Cranberry Island.
Both Ms. Strout and Mr. Díaz are 2002 graduates of Mount Desert Island High School. The couple recently bought land on Mount Desert Island, where they are building a home. An October wedding is planned.
