Jennifer Gwen Fortier and Elias Ayrey were married at the Stone Barn Farm, home of the bride’s grandparents, Harry Owen and the late Mary “Cindy” Owen, in Bar Harbor on Oct. 5. Stu Marckoon, a family friend, officiated the ceremony. Flower girls were Madelyn and Emelia Dwyer of Scarborough and Aria Pittsley of Middleboro, Mass.
Jennifer is the daughter of Gary and Carol Fortier of Ellsworth and the granddaughter of the late George “Joe” and Charlotte Fortier of Ellsworth. Elias is the son of Robert Ayrey and Karen Kearns of Rocky Hill, N.J., and Birgit and Ron Sharp of Owings, Md.
The couple met in 2015 while they were both attending graduate school at the University of Maine in Orono. Jennifer holds BS and MS degrees in marine biology and is employed by Whole Oceans in Bucksport, where she directs the company’s public outreach. Elias graduated in 2019 with a Ph.D. and MS in forest resources and is employed by Pachama, where he is working to incorporate remote sensing into the carbon credit market.
The Ayreys now reside in Sausalito, Calif.
