John and Diane Cyr of Ellsworth are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Danielle Alice Cyr, to Shahrukh Khan, son of Shafi and Kabila Khan of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on New Year’s Day. The wedding took place at their home in Ellsworth with officiant Malen Hsu presiding. Danielle and Shahrukh initially met in Kashmir in May 2016, and were engaged in August 2017. After securing a fiancé visa, Shahrukh arrived in the United States on Nov. 26, 2018.
Danielle graduated from Ellsworth High School (Class of 2011) and completed a BA in international relations and global Islamic studies at Connecticut College in 2015. She later completed her master’s degree in human rights and international politics at the University of
Glasgow. Danielle is currently employed as a program associate for the Gender Equality Initiative and Institute for African Studies at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Shahrukh graduated from Burn Hall High School (Class of 2011) and completed a BA in computer applications at Indira Gandhi National Open University, Class of 2015. While living in Kashmir, Shahrukh was employed by CSS Corp. as a senior network security engineer and
provided global support to Palo Alto Networks.
The couple currently reside in Washington, D.C.
