Mount Desert Chorale to perform Mozart’s Requiem

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Summer Chorale, a community chorus that has performed on Mount Desert Island since 1968, will present Mozart’s Requiem at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Criterion Theatre. A pre-concert talk will be given at 7 p.m.

The performance, which will feature professional soloists and orchestra, also will include two movements from Mozart’s “Solemn Vespers of the Confessor” and “Ave Verum Corpus.”

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, the Chorale is resuming full, live programs of major works for chorus and orchestra. Last summer, they presented a scaled-down concert of short works with piano.

Returning to perform as soloists are soprano Melissa Solomon, mezzo-soprano Miriam Schildkret, tenor Eric Flyte and bass-baritone Ryan Downey.

Free, but limited bus transportation will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from Mount Desert Island High School for concert-goers who prefer not to park in downtown Bar Harbor. (Call Dave and Marty Ward for more information at 244-0042)

Tickets cost $15 per person and are available at the Criterion box office or online at Click on “Movies & Events” and go to the date of the concert.

Due to the surge of COVID in the area, the public is asked to wear masks in the theater for their own and others’ safety.
