Savoring Maine

Maine food historian and Islesboro resident Sandy Oliver will sign copies of her latest cookbook, “Maine Home Cooking” (Down East Books, 2012, $29.95), from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Rooster Brother in Ellsworth.

Oliver says Maine cooking today still has the vestiges of “very, very old New England traditional food.” “Maine Home Cooking” celebrates those old culinary traditions with a modern twist, such as one recipe for squash risotto and pumpkin soup with Thai seasonings.
