Reel Pizza to Show Documentary

BAR HARBOR — “Long Night’s Journey Into Day,” a documentary depicting four cases brought before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Africa, will be shown at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, at Reel Pizza in Bar Harbor.

The film is being sponsored by The United Church of Christ of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor to benefit its justice and community outreach work.

There is no admission fee. A suggested donation of $6 per person for the church’s work will be accepted at the door.

Food will be available for purchase at the theater.

Following the film there will be a 30-minute discussion. The film is not suitable for young children.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission was formed at the end of a 40-year struggle to end apartheid in South Africa. The commission’s work was based on the belief that punishing perpetrators of violence would not provide healing for the nation, but telling the truth in a safe environment and the possibility of receiving forgiveness had the potential to heal and restore right relationships in the nation.
