A public performance by young musicians is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, at the MDI High School’s Higgins-Demas Theater following a day of clinics and workshops as part of the school system’s third annual strings festival.

At least 175 string students in third through 12th grades from Conners-Emerson, Mount Desert Elementary School, Pemetic Elementary, Tremont Consolidated, Trenton Elementary and the Mount Desert Island High School will converge at the high school for an afternoon of rehearsals, enrichment, and making new friends through music.

The students will be divided into two orchestras, conducted and accompanied by the music educators of Mount Desert Island, including Dan Granholm, Heather Graves, Ed Michaud, Wanda Whitener, Jessica Hartman and Rebecca Edmondson.

The enrichment portion of the afternoon is a performance by the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestra String Ensemble under the direction of Rebecca Edmondson. The group will play a variety of pieces, from classical to selections from the Beatles.

Concert admission is $3 for adults and free for students. For more information, call Ed Michaud at 244-5502, extension 154 or e-mail at [email protected].
