Have a ‘Grand Night at the Oscars’

ELLSWORTH — Can you imagine seeing Lady Gaga live and up close performing “Shallow” from the third remake of “A Star is Born” or hearing Gillian Welch and David Rawlings sing “When a Cowboy Trades His spurs for Wings” from the Coen Brothers’ “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”?

That’s the experience The Grand aims to give theater-goers at “A Grand Night at the Oscars!” on Sunday, Feb. 24, at the landmark theater. A pre-screening reception featuring cocktails and hors d’oeuvres donated by Provender restaurant, trivia and games will kick off the evening at 7 p.m.

At 8, The Grand’s film program director Robin Jones will emcee the live simulcast of the 91st Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Jones also will provide commentary during the commercial breaks. In addition, those attending will be able to try and match wits with Robin’s Oscar predictions and win prizes.

Putting the “fun” back in the “fundraiser” was the concept behind this benefit for The Grand. Admission is by donation only.
