Grand to show “Wizard of Oz” in 3-D

ELLSWORTH — The Grand invites the public to see MGM’s beloved musical “The Wizard of Oz — in 3-D!” for only one dollar per person at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 16. The screening is part of the theater’s 3-D movie series.

Released in 1939, “The Wizard of Oz,” based on L. Frank Baum’s classic tale stars Judy Garland as the innocent farm girl Dorothy and Margaret Hamilton as The Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy is whisked out of her mundane earthbound existence into a land of pure imagination. Her journey in Oz take her through emerald forests, yellow brick roads, and creepy castles, all with the help of some unusual but earnest song-happy friends. Directed by Victor Fleming, the movie also stars Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Frank Morgan and Billie Burke.

At 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, The Grand and MPBN invite the public to a free screening of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” The documentary profiles children’s television legend Fred Rogers.
