Curtain Call

Director Jasmine Ireland and her Ellsworth High School student troupe are taking their production of American playwright Mary Zimmerman’s “Metamorphoses,” adapted from the classic Ovid poem, this weekend, March 6-7, to the 2008-2009 Eastern Regional of the Maine Drama Festival at Mount Desert Island High School.

“It is the most human story I could find,” Ireland said of the one-act. Ellsworth High will compete against Sumner Memorial High School, Calais High School, Shead High School in Eastport and Washington Academy in East Machias. MDI, Brewer and Belfast high schools will vie in Class A. “Reunion,” the last play in a one-act triology by social studies teacher Mark Puglisi, debuts at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at MDI High.
