DEER ISLE — It’s been two years since gWatson Gallery has featured live music in Stonington. Gallery owner Ron Watson is back bringing fine musicians to town again. His gallery will present American lyric mezzo-soprano Marie Engle, who will perform “Songs from Far and Near,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at St. Brendan the Navigator Episcopal Church in Deer Isle.
Engle, accompanied by Canadian pianist Mary Castello, will sing songs by German, French and American composers, including selections from the American Songbook.
An Ohio native, Engle is an active recitalist and chamber musician who studied at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music and The Juilliard School in New York. Her operatic work includes Donna Elvira in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” (Wichita Grand Opera) and she has had various roles in the operas of Bellini, Bizet and others.
