Heart to heart

hotdog valentineValentine’s Day is nigh and there are lots of cards available to send to your loves.

Plus, you’ll be supporting the U.S. Postal Service.

We found unique cards at The Meadow in Blue Hill, including a tin of 12 vintage Valentine card reproductions for $18.

Individual postcards are $1.50.

The Meadow also has individual cards to send, including a few with quotes by A.A. Milne. Our favorite — “How do you spell love? You don’t spell it, you feel it.”

Cards are for friends, too.

Karen Brandenburg, who owns the shop with her husband, David Caplan, said “I think we have Valentines you can give to your friends.”

If you’re delivering actual treats on Valentine’s Day, you know, homemade cookies and chocolate truffles, The Meadow has Victorian Valentine’s Petite Parcel sets. Those are $12.50 and include gift bags and ribbons for making your gifts look fancy.

Speaking of candy, The Meadow also has small heart-shaped boxes of chocolates for $15 and large heart-shaped boxes for $25.

Beals Jewelry on Main Street in Ellsworth has heart-shaped boxes of Godiva chocolates.

You can also find cards at Sherman’s Maine Books & Stationery in Bar Harbor.
