Brewer Public Library Executive Director and dad Darren French and his 3-year-old son Lukas have been charming viewers with their lively “Making Slop” party and their other hands-on Facebook Live storytime sessions every week. Inspired by Mo Willems’ “I Really Like Slop,” Darren, who previously served as the education coordinator at Castine’s Wilson Museum, says he wanted to pair the story with some sort of slop like the character Piggie eats in the book. Slime came to mind.

Anna Dewdney’s “Little Excavator” prompted father and son to make “dirt cups” by crushing cookies, pudding, Gummy Worms and Cool Whip in a food processor or blender (“Luke’s all concerned because we’re crushing up Oreos.”) while Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell’s “I’m Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem” spurred an action-packed “Fizzy Color” session.

Tune into the Brewer library’s Facebook page to see Darren and Luke live in action at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays or go for it and make your own slime/fun. Here’s how:

Mix one 4-ounce bottle of glue (Elmer’s Glow in the Dark Glitter Glue works best) with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 3 tablespoons of saline solution (contact lens solution) and voila!
