Creatures great and small inspire poetry reading

ELLSWORTH — In celebration of National Poetry Month, Somesville poet Carl Little will present “Creature Poetry Feature” in which he will read aloud poems featuring animals by Alfred Nicol, Mary Oliver, Kristen Lindquist, Kate Barnes, Daniel Hoffman and a few of his own verses at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28, through the Ellsworth Public Library.

As part of the free Zoom presentation, Little’s recitation of each poem will be accompanied by artwork by artists William Blake, Irene Olivieri, Robert Pollien and Janice Kasper.

Little’s poems have appeared in diverse publications, including Maine Arts Journal and The Café Review. His poetry has been featured in the Maine Sunday Telegram’s “Deep Water” series as well as in 3 Nations Anthology: Native, Canadian and New England Writers. His most recent art book is “Mary Alice Treworgy: A Maine Painter” (2022, Marshall Wilkes). He is a regular contributor to Art New England magazine, the Working Waterfront newspaper, the online forum Hyperallergic and Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors magazine. Last year, the Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his arts writing.

Admission is free to “Creature Poetry Feature.”
