Playing fetch with a stick is always fun until someone breaks the stick. Your dog can find sturdy toys, including those that float and glow in the dark at Cadillac Mountain Sports in Ellsworth. STOCKSNAP PHOTO

Gone to the dogs

We intended to go sweater shopping for you this week. It is, after all, officially fall.

But with seemingly endless sunny 70-plus-degree days plus our never-ending hot flashes, we couldn’t bear to look at sweaters.

We suggest putting on a T-shirt and going outside to play with your dog or a neighbor dog.

To that end, we found the best dog toys at Cadillac Mountain Sports in Ellsworth.

Cadillac carries several toys made by one our favorite brands called Chuckit.

Since we throw like a girl, our favorite Chuckit accessory is a ball throwing tool called a sport launcher.

If you’ve ever thrown a ball and your dog has given you a disappointed look in return, you need a launcher.

The launcher lets use throw a ball three times farther than we would otherwise. Cadillac has sport launchers, which include a ball, for $10.95.

Our dog’s favorite toy is a rubber glow in the dark Chuckit ball, which allows a game of fetch to go on past dark. Cadillac does carry those balls but they are on back-order right now.

Do you have a soccer dog? Cadillac has a Chuckit Kick Fetch, which is soccer-ball-sized ball with deep ridges so it’s easier on a dog’s jaws to pick up. Those are $31.95.

Then there is the toy called a Flying Squirrel, which is similar to a Frisbee only square-shaped. Those float and have glow in the dark “paws” on each corner. The Flying Squirrels are $12.95.

The Flying Squirrels are made from sturdy fabric, which is easier on a dog’s mouth if he likes to leap in the air to catch.
