Bard returns to Broad Harbor! Grand’s “Downeast Shakes & Shenanigans” staged at Woodlawn

ELLSWORTH — For the third summer, The Grand is taking its “Downeast Shakes & Shenanigans” outdoors to the Woodlawn Museum’s new Forest Ridge Stage. The production opens Friday, Aug. 5, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 13.

Set in the mythical Broad Harbor, “Downeast Shakes & Shenanigans” was conceived, written and directed by Lamoine actor and playwright Brent Hutchins. The show weaves together Shakespeare’s works and goings-on in the lives of Broad Harbor’s inhabitants.

“It’s a Downeast romp through some of the Bard’s best bits — three witches from ‘Macbeth,’ ‘Hamlet’ and the Battle of Agincourt from ‘Henry V.’” Sprinkled in is some original contrasting Maine tragicomedy from Junior and The Trenton Flats Irregulars!”

Theater-goers are asked to “please bring something to sit on! Chairs are recommended” to watch the performances on the Woodlawn Museum’s grounds. Picnic lunches are encouraged too.

The Woodlawn Museum is located at 19 Black House Drive in Ellsworth. Tickets cost $15 per adult and $10 per student. To reserve tickets, go to grandonline.org.
