BAR HARBOR — Scarecrows, shmarecrows! This October, the town of Bar Harbor will be invaded by space aliens.
Downtown businesses will create their own space aliens and put them on display from Oct. 25-31. Shoppers, diners and visitors will be looking for them, as they compete for alien sightings throughout town for fun and prizes.
Businesses and nonprofits without a downtown location are invited to bring their aliens to the Jesup for display on the library lawn. Space for the aliens is no problem, as the “landing zone” will also include the YWCA and Secondhand Prose lawns as needed.
Aliens must be brought to the library between Wednesday, Oct. 22 and Saturday, Oct. 25, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for installation under the direction of library staff. A small sign identifying your alien’s home planet (i.e., your organization’s name) may be placed on or near your alien.
“At the Chamber of Commerce, we have the opportunity to welcome many people to Bar Harbor, but I think that this particular group of visitors will certainly have traveled the farthest to see Acadia,” said Events & Development Director Jennifer Wright.
Everyone is encouraged to join the fun.
Stop into the library, the YWCA or the Chamber’s Visitor Center on Cottage and Main for an official entry form. See how many aliens you can find throughout town and record them on your entry.
Completed entry forms must be turned in at the Jesup by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4. A prize will be awarded to the person with the most alien sightings. In the case of a tie, those forms will be entered into a random drawing, and the prize awarded to the winner.
