On Thursday July 19, 32 plein air (painting outside) artists will begin painting around the village of Castine, capturing the light and character of the town in colorful paintings. On Saturday, July 21, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., a public reception and art sale will be held at the ABS Science and Engineering Center at the Maine Maritime Academy behind 58 Pleasant St. Each artist will display up to six paintings for sale. “We hope that sales will be brisk, as the festival is the single annual fundraiser for the Castine Arts Association,” said Don Tenney, publicity chairman for the Castine Arts Association. The reception is free and open to the public. For more information about the artists and the festival, visit castinearts.org/plein-air-festival/, or email [email protected]. The Castine Arts Association is a non-profit, community-based volunteer group organized for the purpose of promoting awareness and appreciation of visual, literary and performing arts through sponsorship of public programs and events.
