Photo Show Highlights Islanders



MOUNT DESERT — MDI residents will find many photos of friends and neighbors, and maybe even pictures of themselves in a new photography exhibit at the Mount Desert Historical Society in the Old School House at 373 Sound Drive in Somesville.

The show is called “Don’t Say Cheese!” and will be on display through Saturday, May 22 and there will be an artists’ reception on Friday, May 14, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Normal hours for the display are Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On view are more than 100 photographs from the historical society’s archives, as well as photos from 10 area photographers, including work by Curtis Wells, Donna Just, Bob Thayer, Tammie Packie, Sharon Arnold, Mary Ellen Martel, Kathy Van Gorder, Kate McMullin, George DeWolf and Noreen Hogan.

The photos on display include images of Nancy McCormick, John Doyle, LaRue Spiker, Jean Fernald, John Stanley, Joe Tracy and many more people you may recognize.

The photographs depict eras from centuries past to many from the last four decades, with ones taken at Camp Beech Cliff as recently as April 2010.
