Stefani Berkey switched to a plant-based diet for health reasons and hasn’t looked back. She will share her experience and knowledge, showing how to prepare plant-based dishes as well as tips to cut down on the cost and maximize the use of groceries in a two-part class from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 10-24, at RSU 24 Adult Education’s Sumner Learning Center in Sullivan.
Berkey, who attended cooking school in Europe, has cooked and taught classes for more than 30 years. In the class, called “Make a Move to Healthier Eating: Plant-based Cooking,” participants will make several recipes and take home any leftovers. The class costs $65 per person. Fogtown Brewing Co. Brewmeister Jon Stein will offer a two-part series of classes about the centuries-old art of brewing from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 3 and 17, at the microbrewery located at 25 Pine St. in Ellsworth.
Participants must be at least 21 years of age to take the classes. They will learn about sourcing ingredients and equipment, recipe building, brewing techniques, beer styles and more. The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will host a potluck dinner from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Blue Hill Food Co-Op.
