BUCKSPORT — The 16th annual Mr. Bucksport competition was held Saturday night at the Bucksport High School gym.

Eight contestants competed for the honor, $300 and the title of grand marshal of this summer’s Bucksport Bay Festival parade.

Since 2001, when English teacher Bob Cloutier started the competition, some 140 boys have participated in the spoof pageant, which in the past has raised money for the school’s Outing Club. But this year, the proceeds raised from the competition will go toward scholarships for high school students and to the Bucksport Community Concerns food pantry.

Cloutier, who will retire at the end of this school year, was given a title of his own — All-Time Mr. Bucksport — and a standing ovation from the crowd.

In the end, it was senior Spencer “Mr. 0 for 3” Phillips who won over judges to be crowned Mr. Bucksport 2016 on his fourth and final try.
