Magic is in the air

“Magic of the Night,” acrylic, Jane Runyeon

WINTER HARBOR — A dazzling exhibit of Pennsylvania artist Jane Runyeon’s vibrant paintings of fireworks will help kick off this weekend’s 50th Annual Winter Harbor Lobster Festival. The festivities will culminate with “Fitzʼs Follies,” a fireworks display, Saturday night, Aug. 9.

“Magic in the Air,” which opens Aug. 7 and runs through Sept. 29 at Schoodic Institute’s Moore Auditorium, features Runyeon’s colorful, acrylic abstractions of the night. The paintings, such as “Quasar ABC” and “Drake’s Equation,” reflect the artist’s weaving scientific facts with the power of the creative process. Her works promise to be thought-provoking, romantic and explosive.

“Artists at Acadia National Park and Schoodic Point have a long history of inspiring people and connecting them to nature,” said Mark Berry, president of Schoodic Institute. An artistʼs reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, at Moore Auditorium.

“Magic in the Air,” which runs through the annual Acadia Night Sky Festival Sept. 25-29 in Acadia National Park, is open to the public on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
