Hard Times Hit Museum

BAR HARBOR — A tight financial outlook at the Abbe Museum has caused officials there to eliminate one full-time staff position, delay an upcoming exhibit, and order continued belt tightening.

While expenditures for the upcoming year have not been finalized, the 2010 budget likely will be several hundred thousand dollars less than the current year’s budget of $875,000, chief executive officer Cinnamon Catlin-Legutko said Tuesday.

The lowered budget is designed to allow the non-profit museum to stay afloat during the difficult financial times it now faces. “We do feel that this decision is going to strengthen us, and were going to be all right,” Ms. Catlin-Legutko said.
