Gardens to be open to public

Three ornate gardens in Bar Harbor will be open to the public later this month.

BAR HARBOR — Two private gardens in Bar Harbor, as well as the public garden at Garland Farm in Salisbury Cove will be open to the public through the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 28.

The Farm House garden at 15 Highbrook Road was designed in 1928 by the renowned landscape architect Beatrix Farrand and is the only surviving garden in its original state in Bar Harbor of her design.

The Kenarden property at 374 Main Street is known locally for its spectacular Italianate garden.

Garland Farm at 475 Bay View Drive, the last home and garden of Farrand is a public garden owned by the Beatrix Farrand Society.

Admission to each garden is $5. Open Day is rain or shine, and no reservations are required. Call 1-888-842-2442, or visit www.opendaysprogram.org.
