Fine Art Takes Center Stage at Festival

BAR HARBOR — The Bar Harbor Fine Arts Festival returns to the waterfront at the Bar Harbor Inn this Friday, Aug. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Director and Bass Harbor resident Marc Fink says this year’s show is the best ever. “For the first time ever the show is sold out and the selection of artists and art is the best I’ve ever had at the show.”

The Fine Arts Festival is unique among Maine’s many art festivals in that it advertises and draws artists from all over the country in addition to Maine artists. “Not only do tourists and locals get to see and buy high-quality local artwork, they also get a chance to see works not typically available at other shows in Maine,” says Mr. Fink. Another unique aspect of the show is the business artist sponsorship program. “I have worked with Bar Harbor businesses and individuals who take a direct interest in promoting artists and the arts in general in the island region. They come to the show and make cash awards to art and artists they like best. In some cases they have also purchased art and developed business connections after the show.”

Mr. Fink says he seeks to increase cooperative activities for all artists and businesses involved with art. “In these economically trying times, I think it is important for those involved in the arts to think of more ways to work together. Of course, I want people to buy art from me and come to my shows, but I want to remind everyone that artists and galleries rely on the public to stay in business and make a living.”
