MOUNT DESERT — Lucy Tracy will leading a workshop at the Northeast Harbor Library in pressed-flower card-making on Saturday, May 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The idea is to make a Mother’s Day card. Ms. Tracy says that participants can bring a photo or a poem or other text to insert into the card, using the pressed flowers to make a decorative border.
The workshop is limited to teenagers and adults, and has a limit of 20. People wishing to participate should phone the Northeast Harbor Library, 276-3333, and sign up. There is an $8 charge for materials.
For the past 8 years Ms. Tracy has being doing work in pressed flowers, a craft that started when she was working for the Stewart family in their large garden in Northeast Harbor. She began taking home flower parts and finding ways to use them, using books to learn more. Bit by bit she experimented, getting more and more elaborate. Her pressed-flower cards have been available for several years at the Alone Moose Fine Crafts in Bar Harbor.
