Jean Girmscheid of Sullivan used a punch needle technique with yarn to create this vivid, wool rug featuring a raven.
Girmscheid, who is workforce and enrichment coordinator for Regional School Unit 24 Adult Education, has been a traditional rug hooker using wool strips since 2005. Last fall she tried punch needle rug hooking using yarn to create coasters for a friend. That project went well so she created the rug.
“The background reminds me of the blueberry barrens with the different colors of red,” Girmscheid said. “Then I framed it with some black and white plaid wool.”
