ELLSWORTH — “Bad Beaver Tales: Love and Life in Downeast Maine” is the title of Ellsworth resident Carol Leonard’s newly published book, which she will talk about at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Ellsworth Public Library
“Bad Beaver Tales: Love and Life in Downeast Maine” is drawn from Leonard and her husband Tom Lajoie’s funny and formative journey of building their sustainable homestead, Bad Beaver Farm in Ellsworth. She is a midwife while he is an industrious French Canadian builder and woodsman. The pair are nuts in love, but they find they are raising about 100 beavers, a source of argument daily, on their 400 acres of wilderness.
Leonard became a licensed beaver trapper and has written other books including “Lady’s Hands,” “Lion’s Heart” and “A Midwife’s Saga.” The latter is her memoir about being the first midwife licensed to practice legally in New Hampshire.
