Art Show Set for Bar Harbor

BAR HARBOR — This year’s 2009 Bar harbor Fine Arts Festival will artists to the drive of the Bar Harbor Inn overlooking the town’s harbor and pier. The show starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, with a patron’s preview during which the public is encouraged to meet the artists and get a preview of their work, which is also available for purchase. The show continues on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. Admission all weekend is free.

Show director, artist and Bass Harbor resident Marc Fink, who will be exhibiting his artwork in the show, says he’s trying to bring something different to island.

“As a full-time artist I do shows from Maine to Miami year round, and have found that the current economy has caused the quality of many shows to suffer as artists and promoters alike adjust to these trying times.

“I’m keeping the quality of the Bar Harbor Fine Arts Festival as high as I can because I know the high standards that many of the island’s residents have. Some believe that it is a luxury to buy high quality art in times of tight budgeting – but I think that purchasing quality art of lasting value is one of the best quality of life investments you can make.”

Mr. Fink said he is excited about the show’s new location and support from the host and local businesses.

“There hasn’t been a peak-season show of this type in Bar Harbor for a long time – and the support I’ve received from the Withams and the staff at all their hotels has been fantastic. They really show a concern for artists and enthusiasm for bringing cultural events of this type to the public. Bar Harbor Bank and Trust and the First bank have also helped with logistics for the weekend.”
