Benefit dinner is Sunday for couple whose Hancock home burned down

ELLSWORTH — A benefit for a Hancock family whose house was destroyed in a fire last week will be held on Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Moore Community Center from 4 to 6 p.m.

David Walker and Tonya Daigneault’s house, barn and two vehicles were destroyed by the fire, which occurred at 144 Mud Creek Road in the early morning hours of July 30. Firefighters from Hancock, Trenton, Lamoine, Franklin, Ellsworth, Sullivan and Sorrento battled the blaze for several hours, and the fire was intense enough that Hancock Fire Chief Chris Holmes said the cause may never be known due to the extensive damage caused.

Walker and Daigneault were visiting relatives in Washington State at the time of the fire, and have been left with only what they took with them on their trip.
