Autumn Gold is this weekend

ELLSWORTH — The leaves are turning, apples have ripened and Autumn Gold is this weekend: fall is officially here.

The Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce will offer its signature events, including Chowderfest and the car show, again this year. Activities will be going on all over Ellsworth.

Kick off the weekend with the shop, sip and dine event Friday night. WVII will broadcast live from Main Street. Shops will remain open until 7 p.m. with specials and Go for the Gold drawings. Round the night out with dining and drinks at downtown restaurants or local breweries.

Area businesses and organizations got in the spirit early, decorating windows and storefronts for the Autumn Gold decorating contest. Winners will be announced during an Autumn Gold Chamber Business After Hours event at First National Bank tonight, Thursday, Sept. 26.

Chamber-member retail businesses will have Go for the Gold Bags at their locations Friday, Saturday and Sunday for customers to enter to win prizes that include a $300 Vacationland Inns gift certificate, $200 Stanley Subaru auto detailing gift certificate and $100 L.L. Bean gift certificate.

The Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a $2,500 Jumbo Jackpot cash prize as part of the festivities. Only 500 of the $10 tickets will be sold. Jumbo Jackpot tickets will be available at Chamber events through Autumn Gold Saturday or until they sell out.

The drawing will be held on Monday, Sept. 30, at noon.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, there will be a Rotary pancake breakfast at Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School from 7-10:30 a.m. Registration for the Down East Family YMCA’s Roger Willey Road Race starts at 8 a.m. and check-in for the Lucerne Golf Club’s Autumn Gold Golf Tournament is at 8:30 a.m. Downeast Scenic Railroad will have train rides at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 on Sunday.

Chowderfest will be held in the Ellsworth Harbor Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Gather under the tent to sample entries from local chefs vying for the best chowder award in both the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice categories. This year’s contestants include The Dunbar Store, The Bistro at Atlantic Oceanside, Union River Lobster Pot, Acadia Provisions, Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery, Seaport Village Healthcare, Airline Brewing Co. and Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital. Adult tickets will be $10 at the gate; tickets for children under 12 are $5.

Music, a cookout and free Union River boat rides all will be part of the fun on the waterfront Saturday. Downeast Community Partners will provide free shuttle service to these Chamber events as well as other locations around town from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The boat rides will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The annual Autumn Gold Car Show will be held in the Home Depot parking lot Saturday. Registration starts at 8 a.m.
