Trojan Tracksters are All-conference June 18, 2009 on Track BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island High School reeled in large number of the top places in the 2009 Penobscot Valley Conference Large School All-Conference Outdoor Track team, which consists of Class A and B schools. For the girls, MDI netted seven of the 19 first team all-conference awards. The boys took two. Heather Spurling topped the charts in the 1,600-meter run, 3,200-meter run, and as a member of the 4×800-meter relay. The other members of the all-conference relay were Chelsey Curran, Kymry Brooks and Kailyn Russell. Spurling also was named a member of the second team 4×400-meter relay. On the girls’ second-team all-conference squad, Destiny Kanu earned the individual honor in the 300-meter hurdles. She also was on the second team 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relays. Other members of the second team all-conference 4×100-meter relay were Kristin Bartlett, Jamie Bracy, and Bliss Weathers. Other members of the second team all-conference 4×400-meter relay team were Ryann Rourk, Spurling and Weathers. On the boys’ side, pole-vaulter Derek Rothenheber was named to the all-conference first team. Camden Fernald heaved his way onto the first team as PVC all-conference shot-putter. Another member of the MDI boys’ pole vaulting contingency, Corey Hodgkins was named to the second team all-conference slot. Joining him on the second team all-conference was Nat Hinckley in the triple jump, Dan Hales in the shot-put, and Carl Ferm in the javelin.
