Islander Residents Help Win Maine State Cup in Soccer November 6, 2011 on Soccer AUGUSTA — Two Mount Desert Island soccer players are state title-holders for their play Saturday in Augusta with the Hampden Broncos, a U14 travel team. Opal Curless of Southwest Harbor and Paige Mason of Mount Desert played on behalf of the Broncos, which won the Maine State Cup 1-0 after Opal scored the winning goal against defending champion Windham, with 3 minutes left in the game. Mason helped the Broncos to record another shutout, allowing Windham only four shots on goal the entire game. Overall, the Broncos finished the season 16-0-0, winning all six league games, a five-game tournament in Sanford and five state cup games. Paige is the daughter of Mike and Stacey Mason, and Opal is the daughter of Michael and Abigail Curless.
