Take a Walk on the Waterfront

A gazebo is one of several improvements to Bucksport’s waterfront.

Bucksport’s Penobscot River waterfront is as exciting as ever.

The walk along the waterfront, complete with lamps and lighting, is one of its best and newest features.

The town has created an attractive and useful public dock for boaters. But tourists who do not have a boat may still be able to go on a river cruise—once the Roxy Leigh berths at the public dock starting in July. That will happen on Thursdays through Sundays.

A fisherman’s pier is being contemplated by town councilors, too. That will provide a safe and attractive place for those who engage in evening sport fishing.

Across the water, there is the boat ramp in Verona in which Bucksport development officials have taken an interest. Plans are under way to rebuild the ramp in such a way that river currents that reverse with the tides are tamed and boaters can get their craft in the water with a minimum of risk.
