Husband arrested on murder charge

ELLSWORTH – An Ellsworth man has been charged with murder in connection with the Christmas Day death of his wife.

Christopher Saenz, 30, was arrested Friday night after being interviewed by state police detectives at the Troop J Barracks in Ellsworth, according to Lieutenant Chris Coleman.

Saenz is accused of killing his 29-year-old wife, Hillary, at the couple’s apartment at 25 Central Street. The state medical examiner’s office determined Thursday that the victim died of blunt trauma force, Coleman said.

Following his arrest, Saenz was taken to the Hancock County Jail. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance next week.

County Ambulance personnel were called to the apartment around 3 p.m. Dec. 25. When they arrived they requested assistance from Ellsworth police, who notified state police.

Coleman said Saenz was at the apartment when state police arrived around 4 p.m.

The couple had two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

“We’re considering this a domestic homicide,” Coleman said.

The case is the state’s eleventh domestic homicide in 2013 and the twenty-fourth murder.
