ELLSWORTH — Saturday, June 1, was graduation day for 24 students who spent five months training at the Hancock County Fire Academy this year.
Class President Chris Wilcox of the Bangor Fire Department told his classmates that they had entered the academy as individuals and were leaving as a team and a family.
“This academy has gone above and beyond teaching us just how to be a good firefighter,” Wilcox said. “We have also learned the importance of competency, compassion, physical fitness and pride, to name a few.”
Lead Instructor Kevin Bland spoke of the importance of the training and of students pushing themselves out of their comfort zones to learn more each day.
Bland thanked the fire chiefs, County Commissioners, academy instructors and the Hancock County Firefighters’ Association Training & Education Committee for their continued support.
