BAR HARBOR
Fred Fairfield
Ames,
86, died Jan. 3, 2002, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 17,
1915, in Hancock, the son of Chester
and Lillian (Grant) Ames.
Fred was a member
of the Bar Harbor High School,
Class of 1934, and a member of the Bar Harbor Volunteer Fire
Department. He worked for The Jackson Laboratory for 32 years,
retiring in 1980 as assistant superintendent.
He is survived by
his loving wife of 65 years, Florence (Harriman) Ames; two sons,
Fred F. Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of Bath, N.Y., and Robert H. and
wife, Judith, of Erie, Pa.; a daughter, Dorothy A. Robins of Bar
Harbor; five grandchildren, three great-grandsons, half-brothers
and sisters, and several nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased
by a son, Peter; two sisters, Queenie Woodworth and Frances Ames;
and a son-in-law, Stan Robins.
A service of
remembrance was held Jan. 7, 2002, at Bar Harbor Congregational
Church, 29 Mt. Desert St.,
with the Rev. Sandra Reed officiating. Spring interment will be at
Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor. Contributions in Fred’s memory may
