Harry
B. Gordius, 80, died May 23, 2001, at a Deer Isle health-care
facility. He was born Aug. 26, 1920, in McKinley (Bass Harbor),
the son of Harry and Alice (Closson) Gordius.
Harry served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in the
Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Tremont Masonic Lodge
and he was a member of Olson Church in Bass Harbor. Harry owned
and operated Gordius Service Station for more than 35 years. He
and his wife also owned and operated Beech Front Cottages in
Bass Harbor.
Harry is survived by his wife, Mildred (Chessman) Gordius;
three sons, David Gordius of Ellsworth, Alan Gordius and Robin
Norwood of Bass Harbor and Brian Gordius and wife, Mary, of Bass
Harbor; one daughter, Judith Gordius and friend, Richard Dawes
Jr., of Old Town; eight grandchildren, Lynn, Jenna, Emily, B.
Jason and Jaime Gordius, Stephen and Robert Ward; one
great-granddaughter, Kristine Carpenter; and two cousins.
A funeral service was held May 29, 2001, at Head of the
Harbor Congregational Church, Bass Harbor, with the Rev. Wayne
Buchanan officiating. Contributions in Harry’s memory may be
