SOUTHWEST HARBOR

Dorothy Ellis Dunbar, 87, died Nov. 21, 2000, at a Bar Harbor health-care facility. She was born April 4, 1913, in Digby, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Ralph D. and Gertrude (Spates) Ellis. For 24 years, Dorothy and her husband, John, operated the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound.

She is survived by four sons, Edwin Dunbar and wife, Carolyne, and Guy Dunbar and wife, Paula, all of Southwest Harbor, Ralph Dunbar of Manset and John Dunbar and wife, Peggy, of West Tremont; four daughters, Gertrude and husband, George Gascon, of Manset, Charlotte and husband, George Lawson, of Bernard, Joyce and husband, Jim Kenney, of Buxton and Pauline and husband, Nick Moody, of Southwest Harbor; one sister, Hilda Hallen of Lomita, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Velora Ellis of Manset; one brother-in-law, Robert Dunbar; 27 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, John E. Dunbar; her sister, Margaret Ward, and her husband, Malcolm Ward; her brother, Ralph Ellis; and grandson, Michael Hopkins.

A graveside service was held Nov. 27, 2000, at Mt. Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor. Friends who wish may make contributions in Dorothy’s memory to the MDI Sheltered Workshop, RFD 1 Box 2042, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
