BAR HARBOR

Mary Janis Robbins, 73, passed away peacefully June 20, 2005, in Bar Harbor, surrounded by her six children. She was born Sept. 30, 1931, in Farmington. She was the daughter of Bernard Ezra and Helen (Norton) Cough.

Janis was a dear friend to the community and a devoted mother. She enjoyed cooking, walking park trails with her sister-in-law, Sylvia Cough, and taking numerous classes. We will all miss her heart and her sense of humor. She was a Communicant and Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Bar Harbor. Janis belonged to the Altar Rosary Society. She was a volunteer with several organizations, including several years with Hancock County Hospice as well as obtaining “Volunteer of the Year” with the Scranton (Pa.) Food Pantry during her many years as a resident of Clarks Summit, Pa.

Janis is survived by three sons, Mark of Las Vegas, Nev., Jay of Chelmsford, N.Y., and Dean of Bedford, N.H.; three daughters, Terri Viviano and Barbara Kazmiercza, both of Clarks Summit, Pa., and Kathy Robbins of Ashville, N.C.; her brother, Sonny Cough of Bar Harbor; sister, Barbara Shea of Washington state; five grandchildren, Amee, Julie, Alexis, Christopher and Andrew. She was predeceased by a brother, James Cough.

She was one of a kind and will be truly missed by any of those fortunate enough to have known her. This area will miss one of its true treasures.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Bar Harbor, with Father John O’Hara officiating. Interment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Bar Harbor. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Janis’s memory may be made to the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 21 Ledgelawn Ave., Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
