Mother duck and her brood
of ducklings hatched at Ellsworth City
Hall in the pre-dawn hours of May 21
made safe passage to the Union River
later that day. Ellsworth Police
officers Rick Roberts and Kelvin Mote
stopped traffic on State Street as
mother led her babies from the City Hall
parking lot to the Ellsworth Public
Library lawn. From there, police
escorted the ducks down to the bank of
Union River, where they swam away.
Barbara Ameen, Ellsworth’s deputy tax
collector, photographed the journey.
